China West Filmmakers Alliance is thrilled to announce the newest member to our Advisory Board Shan Tam (谭芷珊) Her projects have taken her across the globe, working extensively with crew from the East and West.
Shan Tam is a multiple award-winning producer active in film and television on both sides of the Pacific. Her work has been honoured with a Sundance award, Gemini, Genie, Leos and Canadian Screen Award.
A solid working relationship with Asian producers afforded Tam the opportunity to produce two feature co-productions between Canada and Hong Kong, Young Offenders and Lunch with Charles.
Along with filmmaking in Canada she expanded into China where she produced several mini-series for American television with a large international cast and crew (including David Carradine, Ian Somerhalder, Brian Dennehy and Daryl Hannah). She also produced the first ever China-Australian coproduction Dragon Pearl.
Tam has line-produced dozens of international films, including Jackie Chan’s Rumble in the Bronx; Cory Yuen and Andy Lau’s Saviour of the Soul II; and Yuen Wo-Ping’s In the Line of Duty IV starring Donnie Yen. She also provided production services for Jade Buddha; One Meter Sunlight; and Love Memories.
Tam’s recent Chinese comedy Finding Mr. Right grossed US$84M and was a top ten box office hit in China. Her latest work includes renowned director Mabel Cheung’s film Tale of Three Cities for Huayi Brothers, starring Lau Ching-Wan and Tang Wei.
A well-respected filmmaker in both Canada and China, Tam has been invited to sit on juries for various international awards and funds. She has given talks on numerous panels, seminars and coproduction meetings.
Ms. Tam is currently on the board of directors with Creative BC, a provincial government cultural agency. She is a past board member of Women in Film and Video Vancouver and the Vancouver Film and Television Artist Society.
